Domain and Hosting
Registering a domain name is the first how to make a website step you should take. A domain name is your website address; for example, http://mywebsiteaddress.com. Go to www.namecheap.com, click on domains, register a domain, enter in a potential domain name, and if it is available follow the remaining instructions to purchase it. If it is not available, enter in another potential domain name until you find one that is not used.
Next open up another window in your browser and visit http://www.hostgator.com/, click on web hosting, and click the order now button for the Baby Plan. You should order the Baby Plan since it allows unlimited domains. This is important especially if you plan to create multiple websites. Then follow the instructions and make payment.
Finally, log-in to your Name Cheap account and click on My Account, Manage Domains, Modify Domain, and Nameserver Registration. Then enter in Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2 that HostGator provided you in the appropriate fields. You may have to wait a few hours before your Name Cheap domain is pointing to your HostGator hosting account.
Install WordPress
Next, you want to install WordPress; moving you one step closer to discovering how to make a website. You can accomplish this by visiting and logging into your cPanel; your cPanel information was provided to you by HostGator. Then scroll down to the Software/Services section and click on the Fantastico De Luxe smiley face icon. Then click the WordPress link in the left sidebar, click new installation, enter in your desired WordPress username and password, email address, name of the website, and so on. Finally click Install WordPress.
Configure WordPres
After WordPress is successfully installed, visit http://mywebsiteaddress.com/wp-login and log-in using your WordPress username and password. Then click on Pages in the left hand corner and then Add New. Enter in a title, content in the field below, and click Publish. You can follow the same process to add more pages.
